PRINCE ALBERT I OF MONACO (1848-1922)

Nicknamed “the Explorer Prince”, Prince Albert I was a visionary and a profoundly humanist man. As sovereign, in addition to championing peace and justice, Prince Albert I also undertook extensive political, economic and social reforms. As a modern democrat, he provided Monaco with its first constitution.

As an oceanographer and scientist, he led more than 28 expeditions and numerous maritime campaigns among the most important of his time. Aboard his research ships – the Swallow I and II and the Princess Alice I and II – he traveled all over the world, from the Mediterranean Sea to the Arctic Ocean. The Prince contributed to numerous oceanographic studies and was among the first to map the Gulf Stream.

Inspired by Prince Albert I, Prince Explorer gin pays homage to the intellectual curiosity and spirit of adventure of this great benevolent scholar.

With the same spirit of adventure we travel all over the world in search of the best raw materials with exceptional flavours.

The result – a deliberately singular gin that celebrates the natural curiosity of the ‘Explorer Prince’.

The most beautiful adventures …

The first creation of Prince Explorer gin is the result of a unique challenge set by its founders, to create an innovative gin while maintaining perfect balance – combining the refreshing brilliance of Mediterranean citrus with the exotic complexity of some of the world’s best peppers.

After several years of research and development, a harmonious assembly was born – the «First Batch». This liqueur, distilled in a 19th century copper still, is produced in extremely limited quantities. The ingredients we rigorously select come from small producers with traditional harvesting methods.

True to our philosophy, in our unconventional research, we have traveled to the most remote regions of the world in search of the best ingredients. Each choice is the result of a drastic selection process. They are grown exclusively using traditional methods, which not only ensures the highest quality of the gin, but also allows us to pay homage to the small producers we work with and protect the environment.

Our demands on the origin of the ingredients used, our commitment to protecting the environment and our longer production process allow us to produce only a very small quantity of Prince Explorer each year.

Visionary, already in 1885 Prince Albert I had foreseen the potentially destructive effects of human activity on the oceans and most of the evils that afflict them today. He thus became one of the first supporters of ocean protection. Long before coral bleaching or problems related to overfishing, when few people still talked about the environment, Albert I fought for the creation of marine protected areas.

In 1899 he founded the Oceanographic Museum, home of his namesake Foundation. Since then, this architectural masterpiece has cemented its status as a cornerstone of global efforts to protect the oceans.

Today, H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco continues the Principality’s deep commitment to the oceans.

The Prince’s Foundation has a crucial environmental mission: to implement effective solutions for our planet’s biodiversity, climate, oceans and water resources.

In line with our values and concerns, for every bottle sold we donate a portion of our proceeds to support ocean conservation initiatives in Monaco and beyond.
